Fees and Arrangements

When you contact me to enquire about lessons I will invite you to a consultation lesson so that you can discover more about the way that I work. I will be able to let you know if I feel that I can offer you support. Most people chose to come to lessons for an hour fortnightly, but weekly is good if you can afford it. Lessons cost £32 per hour. There is a CD of singing exercises that you will need to purchase, which costs £10. Some people like to book in for a block of lessons but others join up for the long term. There are small reductions for paying for a block of lessons in advance. Jennian King is an assistant teacher, working under my supervision. She accepts beginner pupils who usually want half an hour weekly. Some may move on to have lessons with me if Jenny and I feel they that is appropriate and some of Jenny's more advanced pupils come to me for a monthly review lesson. Jenny charges £14 per half hour.

Lizzie Perring

Music means the world to me. Singing one of my own songs to an audience has been my favourite way to communicate. Having sung and played piano since early childhood, I am an established and very experienced singing teacher with a thriving business based in the Midlands. As well as coaching professional singers, my pupils include people of all ages and ability and some who may have a special need or are interested in the therapeutic aspects of music.

As a singer and pianist  I am so enthusiastic about live music making. I continue to enjoy lots of partnerships and creative projects. I studied music at the Colchester Institute, where I started to write songs. Later I added to my learning at Warwick University.  I have continued to sing, play the piano and compose songs and stories throughout my life. I've performed in music groups and the theatre. I like to set myself the same level of challenge as my pupils and so we are all in the same boat, committing ourselves to regularly going out to show our work.

I believe in an enabling style of teaching and tailor my tuition to suit each individual. I believe that an effective and inspiring  teacher pupil relationship will enable each person to become in time their own best teacher. This is when you can understand how to practise and to develop between your lessons. Being a life long learner myself, I make sure that I keep up to date with my resources and music. I should add that although working on your voice is a very focussed activity I think music lessons need to include fun as well as a challenge.

As a performer and teacher I encourage everyone to feel part of this musical community and I always have a wide range of ability and ages on my books. Unlock the Music accepts some very talented pupils at 9 years old and upwards but the average age of beginners with us is 11 years old. My oldest pupil is currently in his 80s. I offer my pupils extensive experience in performing and a wide variety settings. Part of my commitment to my pupils is to ensure that each individual is planning their musical life. Setting some small or larger goals puts their learning in context. This might be working towards grade exams, whether these exams are a long or short term aim. Building repertoire is another very important thread. Many of my pupils have a very extensive repertoire and this supports preparation for auditions, concerts and any other performancee opportunities that may pop up out of the blue.
